The Citizen New Paper - by Rod Knight

JOHANNESBURG - Elias Mabane flattened the hills of the Remax Rand Road Warriors 42km race
through Edenvale yesterday to post a winning time of 2:26:37.

This was a great victory for the Bidvest runner as he is also a  veteran, which gives him the
prize money of both the winner and the veteran.

“I had a good race. At 28km I decided to push the limits and  then no one challenged me,
I went alone to win this race. I want to try to win Loskop next month,” said Mabane.

Vincent Seng, from Nedbank, came in five minutes later with Toyota’s  Siyabonga Dingile, third,
about six minutes behind the winner.

Michelle Kellock and team-mate Silvia Caroto, both from Bedfordview Running Club,
finished in over three hours.

Kellock’s winning time was 3:14,47 with Caroto, a mere 12 seconds  behind.
Minica Neuling, from Boksburg,  was third.

In the shorter distance of 21km, it was the younger of the Kalmer  sisters, Christine,
who won the half marathon.

Her winning time was a new course record of 1:20:22, breaking Irvette van Blerk’s
record of 1:21:18, set last year.

Marilise Retief who set a new course record in 2007 and in 2009, finished second
followed by Olivier Chitate in third place.

Nkoena Seqhobane won the half marathon in a time of 1:08:18, ahead of fellow
team mate, Tshidiso Basiu, both from Gauteng Striders.

Third place was owned by Kgathatso Cheche.

Top grand master was Brian Chamberlain in a time of 1:36:32, from Varsity Kudus.
